We looked in. There in the dim light we saw rows of folding chairs around the perifery topped with cushions. Right in front of us was the back of the preachers lecturne. In front of the lecturne was the Mercy Seat: a long unpadded wooden bench where converts in the congregation who came to accept Jesus as their personal Savior would come forward and take a seat.
While it was dark inside, the caretaker said that at night there were temporary lights that hung from the tent top, and even a kerosene heater. We thought that with all the Believers inside that little tent, there should be little need for a gas heater.
